My Husband Asked For A Divorce On His Retirement Day—So I Revealed My 30-Year Secret Chapter 07
I gathered the property documents. “Where I live is my business.”
Griffin took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. “Fine. The house is yours.”
He stared at me, his eyes filled with anger and a flicker of something new—panic.
“But I still have a share of the marital assets. For years, you ate my food, lived under my roof. I worked and supported you until you were sixty. Now that we’re divorced, don’t think you can walk away without giving me a cent.”
As soon as he said it, some of the confidence returned to Amanda’s face. Michael, too, looked as if he’d found solid ground again.
“Mom, Dad’s not wrong. If the house is yours, then the other assets should still be divided fairly.”
I looked at their faces and found the whole scene absurd. They thought that by playing my hand with the house, I had nothing left.
In truth, this was just the beginning.
I held out my hand. Jessica passed me the second folder.
It wasn’t thick, but it was enough to destroy every last one of Griffin’s retirement plans.
I set it down in front of him. “You’re right. So let’s talk about the marital assets.”
The moment Griffin saw the title page, his face changed completely.
*Postnuptial Agreement.*
“Remember this?” I asked.
His lips moved, but no words came out. So I refreshed his memory for him.
“Twenty-eight years ago, you were promoted to supervisor. Your bonus got bigger, your benefits improved. You were worried that I, a jobless housewife, would become a burden.”
“You were also worried that if we ever divorced, I’d take half your money. So you had a lawyer draft this agreement.”
Griffin shot back, “We just signed that on a whim!”
Jessica cut in smoothly. “Mr. Ricci, this agreement bears both of your signatures and was notarized. Its terms are legal and fully enforceable.”
