My Husband Asked For A Divorce On His Retirement Day—So I Revealed My 30-Year Secret Chapter 11

Leo’s insurance after he was born, his education fund, private preschool, piano, swimming, robotics camp—every expense was listed on the screen.

Griffin stared at the projection, his face turning a sickly gray. “You’ve been planning this all along, haven’t you?”

“I’ve only been keeping the books,” I said. “A company has books. A family should, too. It doesn’t matter who talks the loudest about how hard they worked. The numbers show where the money came from.”

Jessica switched to another file. This one detailed Griffin’s major expenses over the last decade.

A new car: $52,000.

A bracelet for Amanda: $8,000.

Travel deposits transferred to Amanda: $35,000.

A donation to sponsor costumes for Amanda’s dance troupe: $5,000.

And all the other expenses he thought no one knew about. Golf club memberships. Custom work on his Harley. Private wine-tasting dinners. Installment payments on luxury watches.

On the day his retirement funds cleared, he had transferred a hundred thousand dollars to an account named ‘Silver Horizons Club.’

The conference room was dead silent.

Michael’s face was now completely bloodless. Lauren kept her head down, not daring to speak.

I turned to Michael.

“That night, you told me your father supported me all these years. Do you see clearly now? From your first day of college to your wedding day to the birth of your son—at what point was he the one supporting this family?”

Michael swallowed hard. “Mom, I didn’t know…”

“Just because you didn’t know doesn’t mean it didn’t happen,” I cut him off. “You got used to meals appearing on the table, tuition being paid, down payments being covered, and someone always being there to watch your son.”

“You thought that’s just how things were supposed to be. Your father said he supported the family, and you believed him, because admitting that I was the one holding everything together would have made it very hard for you to look at yourself in the mirror.”
