I Was The Mafia’s Maid Now I’m Their Regret Chapter 08

After I left him, Chloe came running up to me.

“Was that Luca Bellandi? You’re teaming up with him?”

Her eyes were wide.

“You’re unbelievable. Don’t forget us when you’re famous.”

Then she bumped my shoulder.

“I heard he never teams up with people casually. Do you think maybe he’s interested in you?”

“No.”

“How can you say that? I heard he even went to a professor to get your research data a while back.”

“That’s because my data is useful to him.”

Chloe looked disappointed.

“Fine, be that way.”

I didn’t answer.

To prepare for the competition, Luca and I practically lived in the library for a month.

We were either analyzing data or building models.

When we got tired, we’d sometimes doze off in the lounge area.

At two in the morning, I woke up to find Luca handing me a hamburger that was still warm.

“Eat first. Then we keep going.”

I unwrapped it.

He asked, “Did you teach yourself math?”

I nodded.

“No mentor? No one to write your recommendations?”

“I had a math teacher for a while, but eventually there wasn’t much more he could teach me. After that, I was mostly on my own.”

“The problem was I had so little time. I still had to do a lot for my family, so there are plenty of areas I never got to study as deeply as I wanted.”

He didn’t press. He just marked the data I had verified with my name.

I leaned back in my chair and looked out the window, feeling unexpectedly light.
