I Was The Mafia’s Maid Now I’m Their Regret Chapter 07
When I got back to the dorm, Chloe was looking at me, hesitating.
After a moment, she finally asked, “Why can’t I see your Instagram stories? Did you block me?”
I smiled, shook my head, and handed her my phone.
“No. I’ve never posted any.”
She let out an immediate sigh of relief.
“Oh, good. I thought I’d somehow upset you. In a couple of days, I’m taking you out to eat to make our friendship official. You’re not allowed to say no.”
“Okay.”
I lay back on my bed.
The freshman group chat was still buzzing with messages.
But I couldn’t help wondering if my family knew I had come to Boston.
Maybe they knew and just didn’t care.
Maybe they’d only notice I was gone when they needed me for something.
But none of that mattered anymore.
I turned over, closed my eyes, and fell asleep.
A few days later, the youngest PhD student in the project group stopped me.
“There’s a security algorithm competition in Europe next month. Teams of three. Want to join?”
I looked up at him.
Luca Bellandi.
He’d entered Aurelia at fifteen and started his PhD at eighteen. Now, at only twenty, he was already one of the school’s youngest cryptography researchers.
His surname also carried weight in Boston’s underworld. He was a young consigliere in training for the Bellandi family.
At school, very few people turned him down.
“Sure.”
Luca studied me for a moment, then pushed a set of data across the table—information only team members could access.
“Let’s exchange numbers. We can talk details later.”
