He Forced Me To Abort Now He Begs Me Back Chapter 04
At one in the morning, the only light in the apartment came from the small lamp over the kitchen counter.
My phone suddenly buzzed. Evan’s name lit up the screen.
I hesitated for a second, then answered and hit record.
“How long are you going to keep this up?” he asked. He sounded exhausted, but not remotely apologetic. “Do you really have to drive everyone in this family insane?”
I stayed silent.
He went on. “Come home, sign a statement saying the video was a misunderstanding, and publicly support Natalie. If you cooperate, I’ll let this go, and the accounts will be unfrozen immediately.”
“Who prepared the statement?”
“Mom had a lawyer draft it. Natalie agreed to it, too.”
So they had already written my lines for me.
Evan’s tone turned colder. “Mason is still waiting for a kidney, and the Cole family’s reputation is being destroyed because of you. Leah, you’re carrying one child, yet you don’t care if another child lives or dies. That’s unbelievably selfish.”
The last of my illusions shattered.
“Evan,” I cut in calmly, “from this moment on, all communication goes through my lawyer.”
I hung up and sent the recording to my lawyer in an encrypted file.
Outside, the lights of Denver blazed.
All I felt was a bitter cold.
My mind had never been clearer.
The war had begun.
