He Forced Me To Abort Now He Begs Me Back Chapter 06

My lawyer actually laughed on the phone.

“Thousands of people just watched her get served live. That’s the best public notice we could have asked for. GoFundMe’s legal department got the order, too—the account’s already frozen for fraudulent statements. They’re finished.”

I closed the now-blackened livestream page.

“What’s next?”

“Divorce. Defamation.” Her tone sharpened. “One at a time.”

In less than half an hour, clips of the livestream were all over the internet.

#NataliePriceServed trended locally. The same people who had been cursing my name were suddenly asking questions: if what she said was true, why would a judge issue a protective order? Why would the fundraising account be frozen?

My phone rang again. Evan.

The second I answered, he exploded.

“Leah, what the hell are you trying to do? Have you lost your mind? Why do you have to drag our family business out in front of the whole world?”

Family business.

When they publicly announced they were going to sacrifice my child, that was family business. When they were publicly served with a court order, that was my fault.

I didn’t say a word. I just hung up and blocked his number.

My lawyer texted me. “How are you feeling?”

I went to the window. Below, afternoon traffic flowed in the sun. The world was carrying on as usual.

“Good.”

I laid a hand over my stomach, feeling the quiet life inside.

I had won the first battle of a war I never wanted to fight.
