He Forced Me To Abort Now He Begs Me Back Chapter 07

The next day, my lawyer came with me to the hospital.

The moment the cool gel and the ultrasound probe touched my belly, my entire body tensed. The doctor adjusted the angle of the screen but stayed quiet for too long.

Those few seconds stretched into an eternity.

I gripped the paper liner of the exam table so hard my knuckles went white. The livestream from the dinner, Evan’s cold pressure, the online comments wishing death on my child—it all flashed through my mind.

Then the room filled with a rapid, clear heartbeat.

The doctor pointed to a tiny, curled shape on the screen and smiled.

“See? Strong heartbeat. The baby looks very healthy, and development is right on track.”

At last, my fingers loosened their grip.

My lawyer unscrewed a bottle of water and handed it to me. I shook my head. I didn’t cry. I just stared at the ultrasound image as my breathing slowly returned to normal.

The baby was still there.

And the baby was okay.

When we stepped out of the exam room, she pulled me into a hug.

“Leah, you and this baby deserve the very best.”

I hugged her back, and when I let go, my voice was steady again.

“File for divorce.”

She looked at me. “Are you sure?”

“I’m sure. And after the baby is born, I’m filing for sole custody.”

This time, I would not give Evan the chance to use a child against me ever again.

“This isn’t over,” I said, sliding the ultrasound picture into my bag. “I want them to face the legal consequences for what they did.”

She handed me my phone.

The screen lit up with a text from an unknown number.

“If you dare to divorce Evan and take his child, I’ll make you regret it for the rest of your life.”

No signature, but I knew it was from Diane.

I stared at the message for three seconds, took a screenshot, and forwarded it to my lawyer with the subject line: “New evidence: coercion.”

She looked down at it, her expression turning to ice.

“Can you still handle this?”

I slipped my phone back into my bag.

“I can. Let’s go get the complaint ready.”
