He Forced Me To Abort Now He Begs Me Back Chapter 13
I never asked about Mason’s surgery.
Later, I saw a local news report about the hospital successfully completing a pediatric kidney transplant. The patient’s name wasn’t released. I read the article and closed the page.
A week later, Evan requested a meeting through our lawyers to discuss the final divorce arrangements.
He looked even more worn down in the coffee shop than he had in the hospital.
As soon as I sat down, he took a signed divorce agreement out of his briefcase and slid it across the table.
The house, the savings, the investment accounts—he was giving me almost all of the marital property.
His only condition was joint custody.
“Leah, I don’t want anything,” he said, his voice raw. “I just want to be able to see her after she’s born.”
I didn’t even open the agreement.
“I don’t need your generosity. The court can divide the property. As for custody, you’re in no position to use it as a bargaining chip.”
He went pale. His fingers pressed so hard against his coffee cup that the knuckles turned white.
“I know I was wrong. I was just so scared at the time…”
“You’re not a bad man, Evan. You’re just a coward.”
I cut him off.
“You’re always looking for the easiest person to sacrifice to preserve whatever peace you want. Natalie was difficult, so you chose me. Mason was already here, so you chose my unborn child. And now that you’ve lost everything, you want to play the repentant father by throwing money at the problem.”
His lips moved, but no words came out.
At last, I picked up the agreement and pushed it back toward him, untouched.
“Evan, when you froze our accounts and texted that you’d make sure I walked away with nothing, did you ever imagine we’d end up here?”
