He Forced Me To Abort Now He Begs Me Back Chapter 14

He Forced Me To Abort Now He Begs Me Back Chapter 14

Three weeks later, I sat in my lawyer’s office and received the court’s final judgment.

I turned to the last page and signed my name: Leah Bennett.

My lawyer gathered the paperwork. “As of today, it’s official.”

I slipped off my wedding ring and set it on the desk beside the documents. The metal made a crisp sound against the polished wood.

“Please get rid of this for me.”

When I walked out of the office, Evan was waiting in the hallway.

His eyes were red. When he stepped in front of me, his voice shook.

“Leah, have you ever thought about… even once… going back?”

I stopped.

“I have.”

A flicker of hope ignited in his eyes, but then I continued.

“The day you froze my accounts. The day you promised Natalie that I was ‘easier to persuade.’ The day you stood on that stage and announced my child’s sacrifice for all the world to hear.”

The color drained from his face.

“In those moments, I thought—if I had died, would you have remembered me?”

I looked straight at him, speaking each word with chilling clarity.

“But I didn’t die. So now, you’re the one who has to remember.”

I didn’t wait for an answer. I turned and walked away.

My lawyer was waiting downstairs and took me straight to dinner to celebrate my “new life.”

After our steaks arrived, she reminded me, “The agreement Evan offered gave you far more than the court awarded. You really don’t want to reconsider?”

I cut a piece of my steak. “I won’t take a penny more than what the judge awarded me. I’m not someone who lives on his charity.”

“You want to stick to the court’s judgment? That’s significantly less than he offered.”

“Yes. I want what’s legally mine. Nothing more.”

She stared at me for a second, then smiled and raised her glass.

“To Leah Bennett. Not Cole.”

I clinked my glass against hers and finished the meal in quiet contentment.

It felt like the end of a very long goodbye.

And the beginning of a life that was finally mine.
