Westley You Are Late Chapter 10

They didn’t believe me.

It was to be expected.

There was a time when even I believed Westley and I would spend our lives together.

It wasn’t until I was lying on that operating table that I finally understood: the love I had taken so seriously was nothing but a running joke to them.

Listening to the noise on the other end of the line, I couldn’t even be bothered to explain.

When the laughter finally died down, I spoke.

“I don’t need to report my marital status to you. Whether you believe me or not has nothing to do with me. I won’t be discussing this again.”

Then I hung up.

The dark screen of my phone reflected my own face, so calm it was almost unrecognizable.

In the past, their mockery would have stung, leaving a wound that would fester for days.

As if my happiness and my pain were only valid with their approval.

Now, it just felt pathetic.

Their voices sounded distant, like an echo from another life.

If they didn’t believe me, so be it.

I touched the simple band on my left hand.

The next second, a pair of strong arms wrapped around me, pulling me into a warm, solid embrace.

“What are you thinking about?”

The familiar scent of the man holding me was instantly grounding.

I leaned back against his chest.

“I was just thinking, how did someone as wonderful as you end up married to me?”

He let out a soft laugh.

“If you think I’m so wonderful, then you should listen to me more often.”

“For example?”

“Come with me to a dinner on Friday. And…”

He broke off, leaning in to murmur something against my ear.

My face flushed hot, and I shot him a glare.

“How can you say something like that?”

He was already carrying me toward the bedroom.

“We’re married. Is that off-limits?”

“Shut up.”

“Fine. Then you’d better not make a sound later, either.”
