If I could do it all over again, I would stay far away from him.
I wouldn’t pretend to be someone I wasn’t. I wouldn’t marry him. I wouldn’t have let myself become this person.
After leaving the cemetery, I went to see a lawyer and had the divorce papers drawn up.
I signed them before I went home.
I didn’t expect Preston to be the one to open the door.
I pressed my lips together and handed him the documents.
He frowned.
“What’s this?”
I had just opened my mouth to explain when Juliette came running down the stairs, wearing one of his oversized shirts.
“Preston, I think Leo’s having an allergic reaction. We need to get him to the hospital, now.”
Preston’s expression changed instantly.
He dropped the papers on the coffee table without a second glance and turned to run upstairs.
“How could he be having an allergic reaction? He’s never had one before.”
Forgetting everything else, I hurried after him.
Preston came back down quickly, carrying Leo in his arms.
Juliette had already changed, and tears were streaming down her face.
“This is all my fault. I’m allergic to peanuts. Could he have inherited that from me?”Â
