If Your Heart Doesn’t Lean Towards Me I Don’t Want It Chapter 23
The day I went back to my old office to submit my resignation, the place was unusually quiet.
Tessa’s workstation was empty.
The woman who had once sat in the supervisor’s chair barking orders was gone, leaving nothing but a bare desk.
A friendly coworker caught my arm.
“Coralie, are you really leaving?”
“Tessa’s gone. Everyone wants you to stay.”
I looked at the familiar computer and filing cabinets and felt very little.
This was where I had worked until midnight for three months straight.
It was also where my head had slammed against the stairs.
I said, “It’s not because of her.”
My coworker paused.
“Then why?”
“Because I want a different life.”
The HR manager handed me my paperwork, her tone hesitant.
“The company is aware of the court’s ruling regarding the online incident.”
“As long as you don’t bring it up, people will probably move on.”
I looked up at her.
“Why shouldn’t it be brought up?”
She was taken aback.
I went on.
“I did nothing wrong. I shouldn’t have to rely on everyone’s silence to keep my job.”
