He Accused Me Of Stealing But I Heard The Truth Chapter 16

“I was told the personal aid came with no conditions.”

“The personal account was converted into foundation funding. That was not a hospital decision.”

I didn’t take my anger out on the doctor.

He had already contacted the Medicaid and CHIP review offices for me and written an expedited request.

But Maisie needed that medication every day.

The next morning, I took the application forms to Weston Group.

The receptionist recognized me, her expression instantly guarded. She told me to wait in the lobby.

Forty minutes later, a woman in a dark suit approached. It was Rachel’s deputy, Nicole.

She handed me a bottle of water.

“Derek is with a client. The foundation was previously managed by Rachel. Her authority is in transition, but the documents still require her review.”

“I want to see Derek.”

“He’s very busy.” Nicole’s smile was professionally polite. “Aid is for qualifying families. If an applicant conceals income, the foundation reserves the right to recover funds.”

I looked at her.

“You can just say I have to get Rachel’s approval for every bill again.”

Nicole didn’t deny it.

“It’s the formal process.”

I took the forms back and turned to leave.

At that exact moment, Derek stepped out of the elevator.

He saw me walking toward the doors and stopped.

“How long has she been here?”

“Forty minutes,” Nicole answered.

“Why wasn’t I told?”

“Rachel said anything involving Erin had to go through her first.” Nicole paled, realizing her mistake too late.

Derek’s face went thunderous.
