He Accused Me Of Stealing But I Heard The Truth Chapter 15

Derek stopped walking.

Rachel was stating facts.

Without established paternity and a court order, he was just a stranger paying a child’s bills.

But he also knew that if he forced me to sign now, I would only take Maisie farther away.

“I’ll handle it.”

Rachel nodded.

“I’ll let the hospital know to continue using Erin’s consent for treatment and not to pressure her on the paternity process.”

Derek thought she had finally backed down.

I found out what her version of “handling it” meant three days later.

She informed the hospital that Derek’s personal aid had been shifted to the Weston Foundation. The foundation now needed to conduct a financial review and required me to submit my income statements, proof of address, insurance denial letters, and Maisie’s identity documents.

If we wanted to use the Weston family program, paternity had to be confirmed first.

The attending physician called me into his office.

“Treatment will not stop because of these forms,” he assured me. “But the foundation has paused payment for the follow-up medication. The hospital can carry the cost for now, and our financial counselor will help you apply for other charitable relief.”
