He Accused Me Of Stealing But I Heard The Truth Chapter 19
He released me at once, but his eyes remained fixed on me.
“The foundation cut off payment. Why didn’t you tell me?”
“And what would have happened if I had?” I asked. “You’d cancel meetings, fight with Rachel, and set up another account for me. A few days later, she’d find another loophole, another rule.”
His jaw tightened.
“I’ll handle it myself.”
“How many times can you ‘handle it’?”
“Your company is demanding every piece of my privacy and making me prove I’m not a liar just to get medicine for my child. Six years ago, I needed Rachel’s approval to buy vitamins. I have no interest in living under her thumb again.”
“I can work. If one night shift isn’t enough, I’ll find a day shift, too. I survived the last six years. I’ll survive this.”
Derek’s breathing grew ragged.
“You expect me to watch the mother of my child work in a restaurant until dawn while our daughter wakes up alone?”
“And when she used to wake up looking for her father, where were you?”
He went completely still.
“When she was four, she had an asthma attack. I sat in the ER holding her hand while she kept asking if Daddy was coming. I called Weston Group three times. Each time, I was transferred to Rachel’s office, and then the line went dead.”
