He Accused Me Of Stealing But I Heard The Truth Chapter 33
Across the aisle, I watched Derek.
He sat in the witness box, his back perfectly straight.
[Don’t flinch. You already let her bear this once.]
[Say it clearly. Even if the Weston name goes down with it.]
His lawyer started to stand, but Derek stopped him with a raised hand.
“I authorized Rachel to establish a relocation fund for Erin,” Derek said, his voice steady. “And I did say that once Erin was gone, she was never to come back.”
The courtroom fell silent.
“That is my responsibility. I treated a human being like a problem money could solve, and I never once confirmed that she received that money.”
Rachel lifted her head, a glimmer of hope in her eyes.
Derek continued, “But I did not authorize her to transfer that money into her own company. I did not authorize her to forge Erin’s signature. And I did not authorize her to take a woman five months pregnant to an illegal clinic.”
“You’re lying!” Rachel shot to her feet. “You said you wanted her and the baby to disappear!”
Her lawyer grabbed her arm, trying to pull her down.
The judge hammered his gavel, ordering her to be seated.
For a moment, the color drained from Derek’s face.
“What I said,” he answered, his voice raw, “was that I wanted Erin to disappear from my life.”
