Vanessa, standing behind him, said softly, “Nora, Adrian has already shown you more than enough mercy.”
“If another woman had run off with people and stolen medicine, she’d have been thrown in a prison cell to rot.”
I smiled.
“All the more reason Julian’s death was a blessing.”
“A man like that shouldn’t have left a single child behind.”
I laid a hand over my flat, empty stomach.
“Our child is already gone.”
“Julian destroyed so many lives, and your family still wants an heir?”
“Aren’t you afraid the victims’ families will come for you?”
At last, Adrian lost his temper.
He grabbed my wrist, his voice sharp as a blade.
“They were just a few worthless lives.”
“The Blackwood Group paid settlements. We paid for funerals.”
“If they chose not to move on, is that Julian’s fault?”

“Nora Hale, think very carefully.”
