He Was Reborn To Claim Me But I’m Already Married Chapter 20

Mother was the first to object.

“You’ve just been through a terrible shock, and you’re pregnant. Why on earth would you go see that madman?”

“I’m not going to see him.”

I put the hearing notice back in the envelope.

“I’m going to tell the judge exactly what he did.”

When Daniel came home from work and learned of my decision, he was quiet for a long time.

He didn’t try to persuade me as Mother had. He only knelt in front of the sofa and tucked the blanket more securely over my knees.

“The case has been transferred. I can’t do anything for you as a prosecutor.”

“But I can be in the gallery.”

I nodded.

Three days later, we went to court together.

When Adrian was wheeled out, the entire courtroom fell silent.

His left leg was braced in a thick immobilizer, his right was wrapped in bandages, and his face was frighteningly pale.

But the moment he saw me, his eyes lit up.

“Claire.”

The bailiffs immediately stopped his wheelchair.

The judge warned him that he was not to speak directly to the protected party.

Only then did he fall silent, though his eyes never left me.

The Hawthorne lawyer spoke first.

In his telling, the kidnapping was nothing more than an impulsive act driven by old feelings.

Adrian had not brought a weapon, nor had he demanded ransom.

When the vehicle first stopped, he had even asked if I was hurt.

“My client used the wrong method, certainly, but he never intended to harm Ms. Bennett.”

“They have known each other for years and even seriously discussed marriage at one point.”

I almost laughed out loud.

The prosecutor didn’t argue. He simply handed the judge my marriage certificate, the emergency protective order, and the evidence collected by the state police, one item at a time.
