He Was Reborn To Claim Me But I’m Already Married Chapter 19
Then he said something that stunned everyone in the room.
“Your vitals are stable, and the pregnancy test is positive. Based on the numbers, everything looks normal so far.”
My eyes widened. I was shocked into silence.
Mother was the first to react. Clasping her hands to her chest, she burst into tears of joy, thanking God over and over.
Once Evelyn understood, she got so angry she smacked her new husband.
“You idiot, what was that surprised look for? You scared us half to death.”
Daniel was the last to process it.
He was so happy he didn’t know what to do with himself.
Then that happiness seemed to morph into terror.
He pulled me into his arms, holding me tight.
“Thank God you’re both all right.”
The pregnancy was extraordinarily easy, and because of that, I indulged myself.
I paid little attention to what I ate or drank.
Mother, who came to see me often, finally had enough. She wrote to Grandmother, asking her to come from Newport.
“You don’t listen to a word I say. We’ll just have to get your grandmother here to keep you in line.”
“You can’t just eat whatever you want because you feel fine. Look at you, eating that greasy food again.”
“…”
The sunshine was warm on my skin.
My thoughts began to drift.
I could still hear Mother’s scolding, and then, finally, her helpless sigh.
“May God bless my two daughters with safety, health, and happiness in all things…”
Somewhere in the haze, I felt as though I remembered something.
That voice was strangely familiar.
In the split second before I fell asleep, I finally placed it.
It was the distant voice I had heard in my previous life, as my consciousness drifted through the world for more than a decade, just before I was reborn.
Ah.
So that had been Mother’s daily prayer.
But I wasn’t allowed to sleep for long.
The doorbell rang, and a moment later, Mia came in holding a document envelope.
“Ma’am, this came from the Attorney General’s Office.”
Adrian’s surgery was complete.
The Hawthorne family lawyers had applied for bail on his behalf. The dangerousness hearing was in three days.
I touched my still-flat stomach, and I was fully awake.
Some nightmares don’t end just because you open your eyes.
If Adrian insisted on dragging this into court, then I would be there to watch it end.
