He Was Reborn To Claim Me But I’m Already Married Chapter 18

Only after I returned home safely did I learn what had happened.

Daniel had felt uneasy. The moment I disappeared, he went looking for me.

The hotel room that had been set aside for me was empty.

At first, he thought he had the wrong room.

Then he saw Adrian’s assistant sneaking out a back door.

His suspicion flared instantly.

Margaret had come to the wedding alone, for the sake of appearances, and had not brought Adrian with her. Daniel knew at once that something was wrong.

He called the police immediately and came after us with the Massachusetts State Police.

After hearing the story, Evelyn was shaken and kept blaming herself.

I was the one who felt guilty.

Such a happy wedding day had ended in chaos. The two of them probably hadn’t even had a proper wedding night.

Mother’s expression was grim.

For the first time, she was openly cold to Margaret, insisting on getting justice for me.

Margaret knew the Hawthornes were in the wrong. Through her lawyers, she swallowed her pride and offered a large civil settlement.

As for Daniel, there was no question.

The next day, he voluntarily recused himself from the case, turned over all evidence to the state police, and had the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office prosecute Adrian on charges including kidnapping and reckless endangerment.

That same day, a judge of the Massachusetts Superior Court issued an arrest warrant and an emergency protective order.

But none of us had the heart to focus on any of that.

Evelyn, worried I might be in shock, had insisted that her new husband—my brother-in-law, the doctor—examine me.

I thought she was overreacting.

But when I heard my brother-in-law give a startled little sound while looking at the rapid test results, even I tensed up.
