I Let Her Ruin Herself Chapter 29
Carrying an old duffel bag, Taylor went back to the Spencer house.
The door was the same, but the people inside were no longer waiting for her.
Carol opened it.
Eight years had passed. Most of Carol’s hair had gone white, and her back was no longer straight.
“Mom.”
Taylor had barely spoken before she began to cry.
“I’m back.”
Carol looked at her for a long time, then stepped aside.
All three of her daughters were in the living room.
The oldest was eighteen now, the same age Taylor had been when it all began. The second was preparing her college applications. The youngest had just started high school.
Taylor opened her arms, wanting to hug them.
The youngest immediately hid behind her oldest sister.
“I’m your mother.”
Taylor’s smile froze.
The oldest answered calmly, “I know.”
“I didn’t have a choice. I was in prison.”
“You weren’t taking care of us before you went to prison, either.”
Taylor had no answer.
After Derek went to prison, she still had three daughters, but she left them with Carol while she chased after acting gigs for herself.
She could drink with producers and beg strangers for roles, but she rarely came home to ask if her own daughters had eaten dinner.
After being reborn, she had known she might commit another crime, but even then, her first thought wasn’t to ensure her children would be safe.
All she wanted was my money and a way out of the country.
