I Let Her Ruin Herself Chapter 30

Those truths hadn’t been planted in the girls’ heads by Carol.

They had lived them.

“Did Adrian Bell give you money? Is that why you’re on his side?” Taylor suddenly demanded.

Carol’s face darkened.

The oldest daughter pulled the First Light application materials from her backpack and set them on the table.

“The support came from an independent nonprofit. The reviewers never arranged for us to meet Mr. Bell, and they never asked us to speak for him.”

“If it weren’t for this program, my middle sister might have had to drop out of school to work.”

Taylor snatched up the papers.

The final page listed the public eligibility criteria, the third-party review process, and every category of support. Her hands began to shake.

She had once believed that if I helped her daughters, it could only mean I still loved her.

But the public annual report listed thousands of beneficiaries.

Her daughters were only three of them.

“He’s humiliating me.” Taylor threw the papers on the floor. “He has so much money. Why couldn’t he just give you a house?”

Carol finally raised her voice.

“That’s enough!”

“Adrian doesn’t owe us anything.”

“Taylor, don’t you understand? Derek killed your father. You participated in the garage crime yourself. Adrian not saving you is not the same as him harming you.”

That was Carol’s awakening—eighteen years too late.

Taylor stood in the middle of the living room, looking at daughters who didn’t want to come near her.

At last, she realized that tears would no longer make people change their minds.

Carol allowed her to stay for three days.

On the morning of the fourth, Taylor dragged her luggage out of the house and left.

As she walked out of the neighborhood, a familiar man rose from a bench across the street and blocked her path.

It was the obsessed fan, released two years before her.
