He Priced Me At A Penny So I Married Another Chapter 30
“The moment you pinned her photo up in a public market, it stopped being a family matter.”
When Mrs. Lawson saw her, her voice dropped.
“Of course you’d say that. In the end, your son was the one who married her.”
“If Everett hadn’t shown up, she would have gone back to Derek after she was done making a scene. We would have made it up to her. We would have taken care of her, too.”
I raised the microphone.
“So that’s why the next day you brought another display board to Boston and wrote out how I would quit my job after marriage, take care of your family, and have children as soon as possible.”
She whipped around to look at me.
“You tore that board up already. You can’t keep blaming me for something that no longer exists.”
A laugh came from outside the walkway.
“The board was in your arms when you brought it into Carol’s house,” Tori shouted. “Derek and I were both there. You even said you were going to post it on the community page.”
Mrs. Lawson turned and glared at her.
“If you hadn’t blown this all up, why would I have needed to fix it?”
“I blew it up?”
Tori raised her phone again. Without the megaphone, she had to shout at the top of her lungs.
“Derek gave me the poster. Derek gave me the key card. Now everyone blames me, and somehow you’re the victims?”
She pulled up the chat screenshots she had once made public and held the screen up toward the crowd.
They were the same materials I had handed to the lawyer.
Derek had told her to write that I was caring, and to include the eight quilts, too.
She had meant to prove she was only following instructions, but all she did was place every line in front of everyone all over again.
Mrs. Lawson rushed over and shoved her phone down.
As they struggled, the folding board toppled over.
The backup poster slid out and landed at my feet.
The crease in the photo ran straight across my face.
I bent, picked it up, and this time, I didn’t tear it.
The lawyer took a clear evidence bag from one of the staff members.
I put the poster inside and sealed it.
“This time, it’ll go to the people who actually need to see it.”
