After Lefting Me On The Bridge He Lost His Mind Chapter 23
That afternoon, as I stepped out of the hotel elevator, Chloe rushed over from the lounge.
Her eyes were puffy from crying. The Rolex was still on her wrist.
“Mavis, we need to talk.”
Jenna stepped in front of me, keeping her at a distance.
“If you have something to say, say it from there.”
Chloe bit her lip and looked at me.
“Compliance is reassessing my internship. If you tell them the bet had nothing to do with work, they won’t fire me.”
“That bet had everything to do with work.”
I glanced at the watch on her wrist.
“You were his intern. He was your direct supervisor. He used my supplementary card to buy you a twenty-thousand-dollar gift, then abandoned another company employee on a bridge just to make you happy.”
“He gave me the watch on his own!”
Chloe instinctively covered her wrist.
“I never forced him to use your card! He was the one driving the car, and he was the one who locked the door. If anyone should be held responsible, it’s him!”
The elevator doors dinged open right behind her.
Truett was standing inside, his face a thundercloud.
“What did you just say?”
Chloe jumped, startled, then raised her voice.
“Am I wrong? You were the one who did everything. Now that you’ve lost your job, you want to take me down with you?”
“If you hadn’t spent every single day telling me how boring Mavis was, how she wasn’t good enough for me, and insisting on that stupid bet, would I have left her there?”
“Don’t pin what you wanted to do on me!”
Chloe ripped the watch off her wrist and hurled it at his chest.
“Weren’t you the one who said Mavis would never leave you? Weren’t you the one who said if you ignored her for a few days, she’d come crawling back? Now she’s a deputy director and you’re fired—you got what you deserved!”Â
