He Left Me Broken Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 05
I slept until noon.
When I woke, the guest room was filled with sunlight. It took me a few seconds to remember where I was.
Unopened boxes were stacked against the walls. Clothes and scripts were strewn across the floor. I rubbed my forehead and reached for my phone, which I’d silenced the night before.
The screen was black. The battery was dead.
I found my charger and plugged it in. The phone powered on with a flood of missed calls and notifications, so many that the screen nearly froze. I was about to start deleting them when Rowan called again.
I stared at his name for several seconds before answering.
A beat of silence on the other end.
“Liv?”
He sounded surprised, then immediately rushed on, “Where are you?”
“Mia was soaked yesterday. I was going to send her on her way and come find you. Nothing happened between us.”
I sat on the edge of the bed.
“It doesn’t matter anymore.”
“What?”
“Whatever happens between you and her from now on has nothing to do with me. We broke up.”
I paused.
“That’s all.”
I hung up, blocked his number and all his social media accounts, then sat staring at the black screen for a long time.
Jenna knocked and came in, stifling a yawn.
“When you were in the hospital, you mentioned writing a script for the theater company. You finish the play, I cover your rent. Deal?”
I blinked, then managed a small smile.
“Deal.”
Jenna ran a small nonprofit theater with a group of friends. While I was in the hospital, a few of the actors had come by to visit her. The second they walked in, they started bickering, and I saw the seed of a story I’d been turning over in my head for a long time. So I’d agreed to write for them.
