He Left Me Broken Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 15
A few days later, Jenna found me, her expression unreadable.
“Someone wants to invest in the company. Enough to cover production, the venue, and a national tour. We wouldn’t have to worry about money for years.”
She paused.
“The investor is Rowan Ashbourne.”
I just looked at her.
“I had no idea he was that rich,” Jenna said. “The money’s coming from an Ashbourne family company. Our lawyer looked over the contract. There are no creative control clauses, and no conditions involving you.”
Of course Rowan’s family had money. But he’d cut ties with his father in college, refusing to go into the family business. I had no idea where this money had come from.
Jenna cleared her throat.
“He’s asking if you’d be willing to have dinner tonight. He says it’s just to talk about the script and the production plan.”
I rubbed my forehead.
“Fine.”
At dinner, Rowan kept putting food on my plate. He cut my steak into pieces, then moved to ladle soup into my bowl.
I pressed a hand over it.
“That’s enough. My hands aren’t broken. I don’t need you to do this for me.”
He froze.
“I just wanted to—”
“I don’t want you to.”
His hand hovered in midair for a second before he pulled it back.
I couldn’t stand the wounded look on his face.
“Where did you get this money?”
“You don’t need to worry about the funding. Just focus on the script.”
He looked at me.
“I read the workshop draft. It’s based on that story outline you wrote two years ago. You’ve wanted to get this on stage for a long time, haven’t you?”
