He Left Me Broken Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 14

Rowan paused, then turned and left the room.

The on-call doctor glanced at me.

“Your emergency contact is still listed as him, so the nurse called. He’s also asked a few times if you’ve been in for follow-ups. We couldn’t release your chart, obviously, but everyone in the department knows who you are.”

Evan suddenly took my hand.

“You scraped your palm, too.”

The heel of my hand was raw and stinging. The pain in my leg had been so sharp I hadn’t even noticed.

“It’s fine. It just needs to be cleaned.”

“Even small cuts need to be cleaned. Doesn’t it hurt?”

He turned to the doctor. “Could someone take care of that for her?”

The doctor hesitated, then pointed toward the door.

“There’s antiseptic and gauze at the nurses’ station. I’ll have someone bring it in.”

Rowan was standing in the doorway, holding the X-ray films. I had no idea how long he’d been there.

The on-call doctor looked from him to Evan’s hand still holding mine.

Rowan handed the films over.

“The fixation hasn’t shifted. But she needs to stay off it for a while. And she absolutely cannot fall on it again.”

He stepped out, returning a moment later with antiseptic wipes and a sterile gauze pad.

I pulled my hand back.

“There’s no need. A scratch like this doesn’t require an orthopedic surgeon. I wouldn’t want to trouble you.”

A flicker of panic crossed Rowan’s face.

“This isn’t trouble.”

“But you are, right now, causing me trouble.”

I met his gaze directly.

“Rowan, stop showing up out of nowhere, and stop doing things for me that I never asked you to do. Can you just do that?”

He stood there, silent and still.

Evan and I left the exam room together.
