He Left Me Broken Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 13
The theater’s main investor pulled out without warning. After Jenna and the accountant went over the books, she told us the money we had left wouldn’t even cover our costs through the end of the month.
The company might have to shut down.
No one said a word. Jenna took us all to a nearby bar, hoping a change of scenery would help, but she ended up crying harder than anyone.
I tried to comfort her, but she’d had too much to drink and could barely stand. Suddenly, she pitched forward, knocking me to the floor with her.
A sickening, dull pain shot up from my injured leg.
People crowded around us. Evan Parker, one of the actors, helped me up.
“I haven’t been drinking. Let me take you to the ER.”
It was past midnight by the time we arrived at the hospital.
Rowan appeared in the exam room almost immediately. He looked like he’d run all the way from wherever he’d been, his eyes dropping first to the brace on my leg.
“What happened? Where did you hit it? Does it still hurt?”
The on-call doctor standing beside him cleared his throat.
“Dr. Ashbourne,” he said awkwardly, “the X-rays were just taken. Radiology hasn’t sent the read back yet.”
“I’ll go look.”
