He Left Me Broken Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 16
His tone was serious.
“I want you to see it produced.”
I lowered my eyes to my plate.
“I’m not going to forgive you because of an investment.”
“I know.”
Once the company’s financial crisis was averted, life settled into a steady rhythm.
We rehearsed every day, ate dinner together as a group, and did it all over again the next day.
On the day I finally got my leg brace off, Evan went with me to the hospital.
As we approached the entrance, we saw Rowan standing outside.
“Didn’t I tell you to stop showing up just because you invested in the company?”
He answered immediately. “This isn’t about that.”
“Then why are you here?”
Evan looked from me to Rowan and back again.
“I’ll give you two a minute. I’m going to go check you in.”
After he disappeared inside, Rowan pressed his lips together.
“Is he pursuing you?”
I didn’t answer.
He asked again, his voice tight. “Was that crossing a boundary?”
“If it was, I’m sorry. But I need to know.”
He took a sharp breath.
“The thought of you with someone else… it makes it hard to function. So, yes. The answer matters to me.”
I looked at him as if he were a stranger I couldn’t get rid of.
“That’s your feeling. You deal with it. It has nothing to do with me. Don’t make it my problem.”
The little color he had drained from his face.
Evan returned from the registration desk and gently took my arm to steady me.
“Let’s go,” I said to him.
Evan smiled, and we walked into the hospital together.
Just before we turned the corner, I don’t know why, but I glanced back.
Rowan was still standing there. The evening light stretched his shadow long and thin across the pavement.
I had been moving forward for a long time. He was still standing behind me, watching me go.
