He Left Me Broken Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 25

“They’re saying the script is excellent. That you’ll probably win some awards.”

“Mm-hmm.”

He frowned, his lips parting as if to say something else, then closing again. After a moment, he tried once more.

“And…”

Watching him struggle so hard to make conversation, I couldn’t help but laugh.

He looked genuinely bewildered.

“What?”

“Nothing.”

I turned back to the window.

“I was just thinking you were right. The snow really is beautiful.”

He took a few seconds to process that, then looked out the window, too.

“Rowan.”

“Yeah?”

“You graduated.”

“What?”

I sighed.

“You made the most progress in the class. I think you deserve a reward.”

He still looked completely lost.

I smiled.

“Let’s try again.”

He slammed on the brakes. Luckily, the residential street was empty.

He turned and stared at me, forgetting to blink.

“What?” I asked. “You don’t want to?”

“I do.”

The words came out too fast, too loud.

A beat of silence filled the car.

“I do,” he repeated, his voice softer this time.

After checking that the road was clear, he started driving again. We passed through another intersection before he asked carefully, “Then… would you be willing to come home?”

“Aren’t I on my way home now?”

“I mean *our* home.”

His hands tightened on the steering wheel.

“It’s exactly the way you left it. I haven’t touched a single one of your things.”

Snow drifted past the windows.

“I’ve been waiting for you.”

I buried my face in the warm scarf.

It still smelled faintly of him, of clean disinfectant and cold night air.

“All right,” I said.

His fingers trembled slightly on the wheel.

The car turned back toward Lakeview.

Snow hit the windshield, and with each sweep of the wipers, the road ahead became bright and clear.

“Liv, I won’t push you away again.”

Streetlight after streetlight slid past.

“Okay,” I said.

As the car pulled into the apartment garage, my phone buzzed.

Jenna had sent me a link.
