He Left Me Broken Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 26
The headline was a novel in itself.
*A Young Playwright’s Fast Track to Success: A Billionaire Heir, a Sky-High Investment, and a Conveniently Packaged Romance.*
The article contained three video clips.
The first showed Evan helping me as we walked into the hospital. The second showed a seemingly drunk Rowan grabbing my hand in the theater hallway. The third showed him pulling me into a tight embrace, my face buried in his shoulder.
That last clip conveniently ended before the prop lamp came crashing down. It didn’t show the police, or the attacker being pinned to the floor.
Mia never directly accused me of anything. She simply posed questions: why had a playwright with no major productions suddenly received a massive investment from the Ashbourne family? And why were two different men so willing to be at her side late at night?
There were already over a thousand comments.
After I finished reading, I handed the phone to Rowan.
He only made it through a few lines before his expression hardened.
“I’ll have the company’s legal team handle this.”
“Don’t do anything yet.”
He looked up.
I took off his scarf and folded it neatly in my lap.
“This is between me and the theater company.”
His fingers tightened for a second, then relaxed.
“Okay.”
After a pause, he asked, “What do you need me to do?”
It was the first time he had ever asked me that question first.
I thought for a moment.
“Give the theater’s lawyer the unredacted investment contract. The company just needs to confirm one thing: the investment came with no creative control, and no conditions involving me.”
