He Left Me Broken Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 27
“What else?”
“That’s it.”
Rowan looked at me, clearly wanting to say more.
In the end, he just nodded.
“Okay.”
The next morning, a pack of reporters was waiting outside the theater.
Someone shouted through the glass, “Are you dating both the investor and the lead actor?”
Jenna yanked the curtains shut.
“How did Mia get footage from the hospital?”
“The day she came to the theater, her cameraman never actually stopped rolling.”
I opened the article and watched the three clips again.
The shaky camera, the odd angles—they were all the same.
What she’d taken with her that day wasn’t just a few minutes of B-roll.
She had taken enough footage to construct an entirely different story.
That afternoon, one of the venues on our tour suspended all future performances. The email was polite, stating they needed to wait until the “current controversy” was resolved.
The actors sat in the rehearsal room in silence.
Evan turned his phone facedown on the table.
“I can make a statement. Everyone knows what really happened that night I took you to the hospital.”
“If you explain now, it’ll just become a fourth video clip for her to use.”
I took out the theater’s copy of the investment contract.
Our lawyer had already confirmed it. No creative control. No clauses tying the investment to me personally. No language allowing the investor to pull funding at will.
On the corner of my desk sat the story outline I’d written two years ago. It was stained with a ring from a coffee mug, the edges curled with age.
The first time Rowan read the workshop script, he’d recognized it instantly.
Both of these things had always existed.
I just never imagined I’d have to use them to prove that the story I wrote was my own.
“Jenna,” I said.
Her head snapped up.
“Call our lawyer. Tell the platform they need to preserve every original file Mia uploaded. Not one frame can be deleted.”
“Are we suing her?”
“First, we make her answer for what she filmed.”
