Three Days Until Goodbye Chapter 07
After I finished speaking, I hung up right away.
Then I used Chelsea’s phone to block him.
Just then, my phone’s message alert chimed.
The receptionist messaged me on WhatsApp.
“Madyson, Mr. Broughton was terrifying today! He found out you went abroad and wanted to use a private route to go after you.”
“But Ms. Homer suddenly had chest pain. He got busy taking care of Ms. Homer, so he didn’t make it.”
Relief washed over me, and I typed a line.
“From now on, you don’t need to tell me anything about Mr. Broughton.”
After that, I opened my laptop and started submitting applications.
I had majored in design in college, a hot field these days.
Before long, a game studio invited me to draw character costume design drafts.
I agreed.
When I finished, I was just about to climb into bed.
Sabrina’s call came through.
“I really underestimated you! Nice trick — playing hard to get, making Alexander insist on breaking off our engagement.”
“Alexander is New York’s most powerful heir! Even if he doesn’t marry me, he’ll marry someone else. You’ll never take my place.”
She was seething, her voice sharp.
Her sweet, innocent act finally tore clean off.
I couldn’t be bothered to say more to her, and I shut my phone off.
In the middle of the night, I was jolted awake by knocking.
Groggy, I threw on a coat and went to the door. The moment I saw who it was, I was wide awake.
It was Alexander.
Back home it was late spring, but in Norway it was below freezing.
Yet he wore only a white dress shirt.
As if he’d rushed to fly here for me and hadn’t even thought to change.
His nose was red from the cold, and a fine layer of beads had formed along his lashes.
My expression changed, and once I realized what I was doing, I moved fast to shut the door.
But he suddenly slammed his hand against the doorframe.
Risking having the door crush his fingers.
“So it really is true — women can be vicious. Mady, you won’t even invite me in to warm up?”
I had no choice but to ease the door open again, though I still blocked the entrance.
Chelsea had always disliked Alexander.
After she learned what I’d suffered back home, she hated him even more.
If she found out Alexander had been inside the room, she’d probably be so disgusted she’d have the maid scrub the floor three times with disinfectant.
My voice was icy.
“Say it here. What do you want, Mr. Broughton?”
Alexander stared at me for a moment. When he realized I wouldn’t budge, his face darkened.
“Madyson, that’s enough.”
“I even pushed aside deals worth 10 million dollars to come to Norway to find you. That’s giving you plenty of face, isn’t it? Keep playing hard to get and it stops being interesting.”
“You hate Sabrina, and I already scared her by talking about breaking off the engagement. She won’t give you trouble again. Come back with me.”
No. The person I hated had never been Sabrina.
It was Alexander — the man who played happy couple with his perfectly matched fiancée while still refusing to let go of me, his caged songbird.
But he clearly hadn’t realized that.
I couldn’t be bothered to argue and went straight to kicking him out.
“I’ve already decided we’re done. Stop harassing me.”
“Back home you’re powerful and nobody dares cross you, but Norway is the Chantrell family’s territory. Don’t force me to have security throw you out.”
As I spoke, I shut the door without hesitation.
Then I went back to my room and kept sleeping.
This time no one disturbed me. I slept soundly and didn’t wake until noon, 12:00.
But when I stepped out to eat, I heard the maids huddled together gossiping.
They said there was an idiot at the manor gate in heavy snow, wearing only a thin dress shirt, who’d been standing there from midnight until this morning.
It wasn’t until around ten o’clock, when he froze unconscious, that his personal bodyguard took him away.
