The Girl He Sold Returned As The King’s Mate Chapter 12

Adrian hadn’t just remembered.

He had a contingency plan for every possible leak.

The second letter was Isla’s reply to the carnival’s former owner.

After learning that Nora Blake was still alive, Isla had an intermediary offer her five hundred thousand dollars to move away and never speak to any investigator.

The third letter was the owner’s confirmation that the money had been received.

The tears vanished from Isla’s face.

“Those messages were supposed to have been deleted.”

The words were out before she could stop them.

The chief investigator’s voice was like ice. “If you knew nothing, how did you know the messages were supposed to be deleted?”

Isla collapsed back into her chair.

Her personal assistant, brought into the chamber to testify, admitted that Isla had ordered her to purge all records from her computer and phone.

But the assistant, fearing she would become the next person to be “dealt with,” had copied the original files before deleting the visible versions.

She also handed over a cash expenditure ledger.

For four years, every six months, Isla had withdrawn cash under the guise of violin maintenance. In reality, she was using the money to track down former members of the Starlight Carnival.

She hadn’t been some fool, taken in by a single letter.
