The Girl He Sold Returned As The King’s Mate Chapter 11
The violin was a gift for Isla.
Right after the river festival, she was suddenly showing off an expensive new instrument.
She told everyone Adrian had sold his late mother’s locket to buy it for her.
Isla jerked her head up.
“I didn’t know where the money came from.”
“At the time, maybe you didn’t.”
“But what about later?”
I signaled the investigator to open the violin case seized from her room.
Inside were three printed letters, an encrypted storage device, and a bank draft for five hundred thousand dollars.
The earliest letter was dated four years ago.
Before Adrian sat for the Royal Academy’s regional entrance exam, he’d gotten drunk and told Isla everything that happened on the day of the festival.
The next day, sober and terrified, he wrote her a letter demanding her silence.
There was nothing ambiguous about it.
He stated clearly that he had personally handed Evelyn over to the Starlight Carnival and that he would spend the rest of his life protecting Isla and everything she had.
At the bottom of the letter was one final sentence:
*If the old case is ever reopened, you will insist that Evelyn drowned. We can hold another memorial service if we have to, but that transaction can never see the light of day.*
