The Girl He Sold Returned As The King’s Mate Chapter 10

Then, Adrian confessed.

“I did it. I handed Evelyn over to the Starlight Carnival.”

Every eye in the room snapped to him.

His eyes were red, but he fought to keep his voice steady.

“I was only thirteen. I didn’t understand what those transfer papers really meant.”

“I thought they were just taking her away from Riverbend for a few years. I thought once Isla’s position in the family was secure, I would find a way to bring Evelyn back.”

“Later, I heard the carnival sold her to someone else. I’ve regretted it every day since.”

“The reason I go to the dock to mourn her every year is because I’ve been drowning in guilt.”

Isla rushed to his side, weeping.

“King Elliot, he was just a child.”

“Please, for the sake of the thirteen years he spent studying to serve the Crown, give him a chance to atone for his mistake.”

I asked Adrian, “What did you spend the twenty-two thousand dollars on?”

His expression flickered.

The investigator pulled up Riverbend Preparatory School’s old tuition records.

Ten thousand dollars paid for Adrian’s tuition the following year.

The other twelve thousand bought a handmade violin.
