I Lost Our Child Chapter 27
So that was it.
She had specifically requested me as her interviewer not because she trusted my work.
She just wanted to prove, right in front of me, that Thatcher would still choose her.
But from beginning to end, I never gave her the reaction she wanted.
“Ava.”
I closed my suitcase.
“You and Thatcher dated. That’s in your past.”
“I was married to him. That’s over, too.”
“You don’t need to keep comparing yourself to me.”
In a low voice, she said, “But he still won’t see me.”
“That’s between you and him.”
“If you’re not feeling well, you should talk to your doctor and your family.”
I was about to hang up.
Suddenly, she raised her voice.
“Alessa Blake, do you really not hate me at all?”
I thought about it.
“I did hate you.”
“You knew he was married, and you crossed the line again and again.”
“When I lost my child, you were with him in Los Angeles.”
Her breathing hitched.
“But I’ve already moved on.”
“I’m not going to drag myself back into those days just to keep hating you.”
I hung up and blocked her number.
That was the last time I ever spoke to Ava.
Later, Sarah told me that in order to distance herself from the maliciously edited video, Ava’s manager had turned over every version of the interview outline that both sides had confirmed.
Ava’s mother, however, accused the manager of betrayal.
The two sides started a public war of words, shoving blame back and forth.
This time, no one could pin it all on me.
I hadn’t done anything.
I had only put existing materials back where they belonged.
