I Lost Our Child Chapter 29
After work, my mother came to pick me up.
She was carrying a thermos and, the moment she saw me, started scolding me for forgetting to eat again.
“Work is important, but so is your health.”
“I know.”
I looped my arm through hers.
On the way home, Thatcher sent me a message.
[Did you see the studio’s apology?]
In the end, Ava’s studio had issued a formal apology.
They admitted they had made my name and workplace public without my permission and that the video contained misleading edits.
The apology was pinned to their page, but the comments underneath were brutal.
I replied:
[I saw it.]
He sent another message.
[I’m sorry.]
He had said those two words many times.
But this time, I didn’t comfort him, and I didn’t bring up the past.
[Noted.]
That was all I sent back.
My mother glanced over. “Who is it?”
I put my phone away.
“Someone I used to know.”
She didn’t ask anything more. She only tightened her hold on my hand.
After the studio apologized, I thought the matter was finally over.
A month later, I received documents from the court.
Ava’s studio wanted to settle privately.
When I had gone back to New York, I had already preserved both the edited video and the full footage as evidence.
