The Day I Went Silent Chapter 05

The Day I Went Silent Chapter 05

Olivia instinctively moved, straining her injured flesh. The searing jolt of pain snapped her fully awake.

What was she doing?

Was she still expecting Julian to choose her?

No, she couldn’t rely on him.

Olivia gritted her teeth, fought through the agony, and rolled off the bed.

Her body hit the floor, tearing her wounds open again!

Olivia’s vision went white from the pain, but with thick smoke pouring in, she didn’t dare stop.

She could only claw at the floor, dragging herself toward the window.

A long trail of blood smeared across the floor tiles.

Downstairs, Julian finally got Chloe to safety.

He turned to sprint back upstairs but was held back by a firefighter. “The fire is too big, it’s dangerous inside!”

Veins bulged on Julian’s forehead, his temper flaring like never before: “But my wife is still in there!

I have to go save her!”

“Please calm down… someone is at the window!”

Julian froze and looked up.

A figure wrapped in bandages struggled to lean out, blood seeping through her wounds, looking utterly battered.

It was Olivia!

Without even a glance in his direction, she vaulted out the window without hesitation, her frail body falling into the first-floor pool like a butterfly with broken wings.

When Olivia opened her eyes again, she saw the familiar white ceiling.

She turned her head and found Julian sitting right beside her, staring intently at her.

His eyes were bloodshot and his expression exhausted; he hadn’t rested properly in a long time.

“Didn’t I tell you to wait for me?

Why did you jump?”

His face darkened the second she stirred, his voice rough and hoarse. “Do you have any idea you could’e died?

!”

Olivia lowered her eyes, staring at the white sheets, and said lightly, “I don’t trust you.”

“…What did you say?”

“I said I don’t trust you.

I didn’t believe you would come back to save me.

I didn’t want to die, so I had to save myself.”

Julian stared at her blankly, realizing there wasn’t a trace of softness left in her eyes.

It wasn’t like this before.

When Oliver bullied her and put cockroaches in her cup, she would cry and throw herself into his arms.

When the elders of the Vance family looked down on her, calling her a barren wife, she would shoot him a pleading look for help.

When Julian said, “Don’t be afraid, I’ll help you,” Olivia’s eyes would light up, full of trust.

When did she stop looking at him like that?

Julian didn’t dare think any further. He just dropped a “get some rest” and fled the room.

Olivia was happy for the peace and quiet. She stayed in the hospital for a few days until her wounds finally healed.

Returning to the villa, before she even walked through the door, she heard bursts of laughter coming from inside.

It was Chloe playing with Oliver, and a pile of empty snack bags was scattered across the soft mat.

Olivia stared at the opened bag of peanut butter snacks, her brow twitching, and said instinctively, “Oliver, you have a peanut allergy, you can’t eat this.”

“This is a snack, not peanuts!”

Seeing her return, Oliver’s face immediately soured. “Always bossing me around, aren’t you annoying!

You should have just stayed in the hospital for a few more days…”

Chloe also gave a mocking smile. “Don’t worry, Mrs. Vance, I will take good care of my son.”

Right, that was her son.

Olivia stood there for a long moment, a self-deprecating smirk tugging at the corner of her lips.

She brushed it off, headed upstairs and settled down to sleep.

By evening, she was awakened by a noisy commotion.

Coming downstairs, she saw Oliver’s face covered in red rashes, wailing in Addison Vance’s arms.

Chloe and Julian stood to the side, both wearing solemn expressions.

“Oh, my precious grandson, who on earth was so heartless to feed you seafood!

Didn’t they know you’re allergic!”

The old lady cursed shrilly, and Chloe’s expression stiffened.

“Was it you!

Chloe, I always knew you were unscrupulous!”

The old lady glared at her, and she blurted out instinctively: “It wasn’t me, it was Olivia!”

“How dare you, Olivia!

Are you out of your mind!

You can’t have children yourself, so you try to harm my precious grandson!”

“Go kneel in the family shrine right now!”

The Vance family shrine was Olivia’s nightmare; her entire body stiffened.

“It wasn’t me.”

She looked at Oliver. “Oliver, tell us, who was it?”

Oliver’s crying quieted down a bit; he kept his head lowered, not daring to look up.

“Precious grandson, tell us quickly, Grandma will stand up for you!

Whoever dared to harm you, Grandma will skin her alive!”

The old lady kept urging him.

Oliver bit his lip, finally unable to bear the pressure, and looked at Olivia.

The implication was obvious.

Olivia wasn’t too surprised, only feeling a deep sense of sorrow.

Over the past few years, she had truly treated Oliver as her own child.

Although Oliver disliked her, his attitude had been gradually softening.

She had genuinely believed they could be mother and son.

Before Addison could blow up, Olivia said flatly: “There’s a security camera in the living room. Let’s check the footage.”

Instantly, Chloe’s face drained of color, and Oliver was so frightened he stopped crying.

Addison remained completely oblivious: “What do you mean? Would my Oliver lie?

Check it then, today I will definitely make you accept your guilt…”

She was just about to have someone pull up the footage when the previously silent Julian suddenly spoke up: “The camera is broken. It hasn’t been fixed.”

Olivia snapped her head up, staring at Julian in disbelief.

Impossible, it was perfectly fine before!

Julian’s expression was complicated, a trace of guilt in his eyes as he looked at her, but he continued anyway: “Olivia, you need to admit it when you’ve done something wrong.”

“Oliver’s food is always prepared by you. This time, it must have been your negligence.”

What else was there for Olivia not to understand?

Julian knew the truth, yet he still chose to protect Chloe!
