“She walked out on her own last night, and now she’s back with a whole group of men.”
“She looked so proper at the wedding. Turns out she couldn’t even wait one night.”
I took out my phone, started a video recording, and aimed the camera at the scene.
“They are employees of a professional moving company, all with official work orders. Everything you just said has been recorded.”
“If you continue to make baseless accusations, I will forward this recording to my lawyer.”
Madison’s expression flickered.
Then she sneered.
“Don’t threaten me with lawyers. When Eric hears about this, he won’t let you get away with it.”
I said, “You spend the night locked in a guest room with my supposed husband, and now you’re going to lecture me on the rules of marriage?”
“That’s between me and Eric. What’s it to you?”
She stepped toward me, her finger pointing at my shoulder.
I moved back before she could touch me.
That only made her angrier.
“The only reason Eric’s father wanted this wedding was for your family’s money. Eric doesn’t want *you*.”
“If you know what’s good for you, you’ll leave the things and get out.”
A man’s voice called from the top of the stairs.
“Maddie, what are you arguing about so early?”
Eric came down, wearing the same wrinkled shirt from the night before. The scratch on his neck was even more pronounced.
