He Chose Her On Our Wedding Night So I Took Everything Chapter 17
Wyatt moved closer, lowering his voice.
“Elodie, I wasn’t trying to pressure you. I thought proposing in front of your parents would show you how serious I am.”
“Did you ask me?”
I looked at him.
“I thought I made myself clear. I told you I needed time and space.”
“Instead, you arranged flowers and a ring in front of an audience and waited for me to say yes. Did you think that would make me happy?”
The color drained from his face.
“No. I didn’t think this through.”
“That’s the problem.”
I stared at him.
“You put all this effort into the presentation, but you never stopped to consider if this public spectacle would make me uncomfortable.”
“I’ve just taken on a new line of business, and I’m preparing to expand my brand. Did you ever think about the kind of life I want for myself?”
“Or did you just assume that because a man with better qualifications showed up, I should be in a hurry to get married?”
He immediately tried to explain.
“I would never want you to give up your work.”
“Then why didn’t you listen to me?”
The more I looked at him, the more disappointed I felt.
“Eric wanted to use my resources without caring if I was willing. You say you like me, but you still didn’t bother to ask what I wanted first.”
“If there’s no respect in a relationship, then no amount of ceremony matters.”
Wyatt stood there for a long time. Finally, he turned to the event staff.
“Stop. Take it all down.”
The flowers and gifts were cleared away, piece by piece.
Then he turned to the lingering crowd. “I’m the one who misread the situation. This has nothing to do with Elodie. Please delete any photos or videos you may have taken.”
After the crowd dispersed, only the two of us remained.
His head was bowed, and his voice was rough when he spoke.
“I’m sorry. I thought you would like it.”
I looked at him.
“I didn’t leave Eric just so I could immediately find a man with better qualifications.”
“I just want to be the one to decide my own life.”
“What I do, who I’m with, and when I start a new chapter—that should be my choice.”
He nodded.
This time, I didn’t soften my words just because he looked hurt.
“Take everything back. If you want to discuss work in the future, make an appointment like anyone else.”
“If you want to have coffee as a friend, ask me first if I have time.”
“And if you ever pull a stunt like this again…”
I pushed open the showroom door.
“I’ll have security escort you out.”
