The Day I Went Silent Chapter 19
Julian started pestering Olivia.
When Olivia went to a restaurant, he would wait outside. When she hung out with her classmates, he would follow silently.
Even when Olivia stayed indoors at the villa, she would receive bouquet after bouquet of flowers. Peeking out the window, she would see a Maybach parked downstairs, the familiar man leaning against it, a cigarette glowing faintly at his fingertips.
Eleanor sat beside her and handed her a fruit platter: “Tsk tsk, what act is he putting on now? The prodigal son returns?”
“Why don’t you have a talk with him? Him acting like this all day isn’t going to solve anything.”
Olivia sighed and had no choice but to let Julian come up.
“Olivia…”
Julian walked in, his eyes full of pleasant surprise as he looked at her, seemingly thinking things had taken a turn for the better.
Olivia didn’t look at him: “Julian, stop this. It’s really meaningless.”
The light in his eyes instantly died out, and he said in a low voice: “I know you’re upset. I just wanted you to cool off.”
“It’s not about cooling off. I used to love you a lot, but whenever I needed you, you were always by Chloe’s side.”
Bringing up those days again, Olivia’s voice still sounded a bit strained.
“Your parents didn’t like me, your son didn’t like me, and my life was just too hard. But I was so foolish back then. I thought that as long as you loved me, I could keep holding on.”
Julian froze, his eyes full of deep emotion: “I…”
“But you didn’t love me. You just needed an obedient and dignified wife, and that wife could have been anyone. Only Chloe was your true love.” Olivia interrupted him.
“In three years, I suffered two miscarriages for you, went to the hospital countless times, and was even cyberbullied by Chloe’s fans.”
“Because I loved you, I sacrificed too much. I just can’t hold on anymore.”
Julian took two steps back, his lips trembling as he failed to find the words.
Olivia even smiled a little: “Thinking about it now, I was also in the wrong for forcing your feelings. You’re free now. Go find the person you truly love.”
“No, I love you. I’ve always loved you.”
Julian suddenly said, “Only after you left these past few months did I realize that I had fallen for you a long time ago. I just didn’t want to admit it. I was just clinging to those few memories from the past, unable to let go.”
“When I married you, I wanted to treat you well. I never expected you to suffer so much. It was my negligence, and I apologize to you.”
“Give me one more chance. It won’t be like this ever again, okay?”
Olivia’s forehead throbbed with a slight ache.
How did she never realize before that Julian was the type to pester someone so relentlessly?
“Can a single apology erase all the pain you’ve caused me? Does all my suffering over these past few years count for nothing?”
“You say it won’t be like this ever again, but your parents don’t think that way, and neither does your son.”
“Stop pestering me, Julian. Let’s just leave things as they are.”
Julian stood rooted to the spot, his eyes filled with inner struggle.
He dropped a quiet “I get it,” then turned and left.
Olivia stood there, feeling a bit bewildered.
What exactly did he get?
