The Day I Went Silent Chapter 18

The kiss was intense.

Their lips tangled, swallowing all of Olivia’s startled gasps.

Julian looked at Olivia’s flustered expression, her heaving chest, and her suddenly flushed cheeks. The scorching anxiety that had been burning him alive for months finally subsided a fraction.

Furious and panicked, Olivia bit down hard on his lip.

The metallic taste of blood spread, but Julian didn’t pull back; instead, he kissed her even harder.

It didn’t stop until Olivia raised her hand and slapped him across the face.

She had used all her strength. Julian’s head snapped to the side, a red handprint quickly blooming on his cheek.

He stood frozen for a long moment, a dazed look in his eyes as his fingers unconsciously brushed against his cheek.

Olivia had never laid a hand on him before. After all, the old Olivia had loved him so deeply.

“You bastard.”

Olivia spat with a cold face, wiping her lips frantically.

So filthy.

Julian wasn’t angry. Instead, he let out a soft chuckle. “Fine. If hitting me helps you vent your anger, so be it.”

“I upset you before, so I can let it slide that you faked your death to trick me. Come with me to the registry office. We’re getting remarried first.”

Olivia almost laughed out loud.

“Mr. Vance, are you incapable of understanding simple words?”

“I’m not throwing a tantrum. I genuinely don’t want to go with you.

We’re done.”

Julian’s face instantly darkened. “Done? Olivia, what nonsense are you talking about? We are husband and wife.”

“We are already divorced. And I have no desire to remarry you.”

Olivia stared straight into his eyes, enunciating every word. “Because I don’t love you anymore. I don’t want to be your wife. Is that so hard to accept?”

Watching Julian’s expression shift from disbelief to sheer bewilderment, a twisted sense of satisfaction bloomed in Olivia’s chest.

The one who loves more always sacrifices more.

The old Olivia had placed Julian at the very center of her heart, cherishing him, caring for him, and giving him everything she had without a second thought.

But even the most passionate love could be worn away.

Having lost that love, even a man like Julian would find it hard to adjust.

On second thought, Olivia found herself ridiculous.

The agony of the past three years had been all too real. What good was Julian’s current discomfort? It couldn’t make up for a single fraction of what she had endured.

Not wanting to waste another breath, Olivia turned to leave, only to be yanked back again.

Julian’s eyes were dark and murky, his tone stubbornly persistent. “Explain yourself. What do you mean you don’t love me anymore?”

“You loved me for ten years. How could you just stop?”

Olivia froze.

A self-deprecating smirk tugged at the corner of her mouth. “When did you find out?”

Seven years of unrequited love, three years of marriage.

When exactly did you find out?

Julian lowered his gaze, his voice hoarse. “A few months ago, when I thought you were dead… I found your diary…”

So he had seen it.

He had seen all of it — the deeply ingrained devotion, the unspoken adoration, and the utter exhaustion and agony that followed.

Her eyes stinging with unshed tears, Olivia violently shook off his grip.

“Julian, it’s all in the past.”
