Make Them Regret It Chapter 12

“The original plan was just that Mr. Romano had been arrested and the women would be confined for one night.”

“The part about being sent to Blackwood for processing—Isabella added that herself.”

The maid glanced at Isabella, her voice shrinking to a whisper.

“She said the old matriarch would never be able to stand the shame. That as soon as she heard they’d be taken for experiments, she would lead the whole family to their deaths.”

“She also said that if all the women died, no one would be left to protect Blythe.”

The room was utterly silent.

I sat in my coffin, and the wound in my shoulder suddenly felt distant, numb.

So that was it.

My grandmother, my mother, my two sisters-in-law—their deaths were all part of Isabella’s design.

She knew my grandmother’s pride. She knew the women of the Romano family would rather die than be taken as lab rats.

So she used that pride to drive them to their graves.

And the men who had handed her the knife were now kneeling before me.

My father had given her authority. My older brother had given her money. Colton had helped her orchestrate the entire charade.

Isabella huddled in the corner, her face pale, still muttering, “It’s not my fault. They chose to die. What does that have to do with me?”

My second brother slowly got to his feet, walked over to her, and slapped her so hard she fell to the floor.

My father opened his mouth, and the words that came out were still, “Nico, don’t…”

I looked at my father.

Even now, he was protecting her.

In that moment, the last ember of warmth inside me died.

I climbed out of the coffin, bracing myself against its edge until I could stand. I turned to the legal adviser.

“Take her to the steps.”
