He Gave Our Baby To His Mistress Then I Was Reborn Chapter 07

Her eyes brim with tears as she gazes at Preston, waiting for him to comfort her.

But Preston has no patience for a weeping woman. He clings to my legs, begging.

“Yvonne, remember our good days? Remember our trip to Italy, when I carried you up that hill? When you were pregnant and your feet swelled up, I massaged them every night.”

He lists memory after memory, trying to soften me.

Then he looks at the babies.

“Yvonne, think about the kids. You’d really let them grow up without a father?”

“I swear on my life. I’ll be good to you. I’ll love you and the kids forever. If I so much as glance at another woman, may God strike me dead.”

Sierra stares at him, stunned.

“Preston, you told me I was the only one you’d ever love.”

“You told me Yvonne was trash. That she wasn’t fit to tie my shoes. You said looking at her made you sick. Did you forget?”

She still doesn’t know what’s happened. She still thinks Preston is Whitmore heir.

Preston spins around and slaps her across the face.

“Shut up, you piece of trash. Yvonne is elegant and refined. You’re not fit to breathe the same air as her. You’re a gutter-born whore. I took pity on you.”

“And you used my sympathy. You seduced me. You pushed me into terrible things.”

He slaps her again.

“Get out of this house. If I ever see your face again, I’ll kill you.”

Sierra sits frozen, hand pressed to her cheek.

“Preston, what’s wrong with you? You said you loved me most. How could you hit me?”

Her eyes lock on me. Something clicks.

“Yvonne, you bitch. You forced him to say this, didn’t you? Preston and I are the real love story. Nobody can tear us apart.”

“You Sinclairs have money and power, but Preston is Boston royalty too. He’s worth hundreds of millions.”

Before she can finish, Preston kicks her hard. She flies back five feet and lands on the marble floor, blood at the corner of her mouth, curled up whimpering.

Someone in the crowd sneers.

“Sierra, if you two love each other so much, you can leave together.”

“Yeah. Start over from scratch. True love conquers all, right?”

Sierra’s eyes fall on the adoption papers on the floor. She scrambles over, snatches them up, and her pupils blow wide.

“No. No. Preston can’t be an orphan. Look at him. He’s got class. He’s got breeding. He can’t be an orphan.”

“Sierra, nobody’s stopping you two anymore. You can go be happy together. Get out.”

Sierra sees the horror in Preston’s eyes, screams, and bolts for the door.

Preston tries to beg again. Richard signals. Two guards drag Preston out. His pleas fade down the hall.

That afternoon, Richard picks up Lucky and Pearl and makes an announcement to the room.

Forty percent of Whitmore Corp is being transferred to the twins. Twenty percent to me.

Richard looks at me, eyes soft.

“Yvonne, you’ve suffered enough.”

“From today on, you’re not my daughter-in-law. You’re my daughter. If you ever want to remarry, I won’t say a word. All I ask is that one of your children carries on the Whitmore name.”

I nod, tears in my eyes.

“Dad. Mom. You’re my family now.”

The guests raise their glasses, toasting the Whitmores’ new adopted daughter and the alliance between our two families.
