He Gave Our Baby To His Mistress Then I Was Reborn Chapter 08
Boston is buzzing with the news. I officially step in as Vice President of Whitmore Corp.
Richard and Margaret watch the babies at home. With Ethan and Damon opening doors, I lock down my position within a month.
Then, one morning in the parking garage, Preston shows up.
He’s holding a huge bouquet of roses, staring at me with wet, desperate eyes.
“Yvonne. I always knew you were sharp. But look at you. Running Whitmore Corp better than I ever did.”
“Yvonne, I know I was wrong. This past month, I’ve thought about everything. I finally see it. I had the perfect wife and son and I threw it all away for a piece of trash who blinded me.”
He drops to one knee and pulls out a ring.
“Yvonne, I’m not asking you to forgive the old me. Let me prove I’ve changed. Let me court you again. Let me show you I’m serious.”
He offers me flowers and a ring.
I smile and take the bouquet.
Preston’s face lights up.
“Yvonne, I knew you still…”
Before he can stand up, I swing the bouquet across his face like a bat.
“Preston, do you not own a mirror? You could try pissing on the sidewalk and looking at your reflection. What makes you think I’d want you now?”
“I’m worth ten billion. I’m VP of Whitmore Corp. You think I’d date a man who’s been eating garbage?”
The wire stems slice his cheeks. Blood beads up in fat red lines.
Preston’s face darkens. He forces his voice steady.
“Yvonne, I thought you were different. I thought you weren’t shallow like other women. I didn’t realize you measure love by money. You’ve disappointed me.”
I laughed, secondhand embarrassed for him.
“Preston, I’m shallow? Then why are you kneeling in front of me?”
“Oh, wait. You said you loved Sierra. Your soulmate. Pure of heart, above worldly things. So go live happily ever after with her. Stop bothering me.”
I lean in, smiling sweetly.
“Or is it that you’re too broke to buy your dead son a coffin? Is that why you’re here? You want me to pay for the little bastard’s funeral?”
Preston’s face goes ugly.
“Don’t mention that bitch. She’s constantly demanding money. Won’t earn a cent herself. Blows through cash like water.”
“If it wasn’t for her twisted plan, that kid would still be alive. This is her karma.”
Then he looks at me, all soft again.
“Yvonne. Say you’ll forgive me. I’ll make her disappear tonight. She’ll never come near you again. Please.”
I stare at him.
Every word out of his mouth is somebody else’s fault. He can’t see himself. Ever.
I wonder what kind of criminals his biological parents were, to produce something this rotten.
I shove him off, unlock my car, and slam the door.
He lunges at the window. I peel out, tail spinning, and clip him hard enough to send him sprawling.
In the rearview, he’s on his feet, screaming.
“Yvonne, you love me! You’re just angry! I’ll prove I’m real this time!”
He goes full stalker. Roses in the morning. Bento boxes at lunch. Chicken soup at night. Standing outside my office window like a broken statue.
He used to be the CEO. Security couldn’t quite bring themselves to drag him off. Finally I put out an order: no dogs and no Preston within a hundred yards of the building.
Peace, at last.
I had someone dig into why he’s gone this insane.
