The Widow’s Fate They Chose Was My Escape Plan Chapter 11
Hayden’s breath caught. He kept his head bowed, not daring to look up. “Chairman,” he said hoarsely, “I know I was wrong. We only did it because we thought…”
The words lodged in his throat. His mind was in turmoil.
They had only done it because they believed the marriage would be in name only. Once Sebastian died, they would simply bring Lena back. Sebastian was too sick for an intimate relationship. Then Hayden could take back the girl he loved without any burden.
More than that, having been widowed once, Lena would be even easier to control.
A young widow, tainted by rumor—if he was willing to take her back, she ought to be endlessly grateful.
But how could he possibly say any of that out loud?
The chairman’s eyes turned to ice. “Did you think I didn’t know what you were planning?”
“The Quinn family’s prenuptial and asset arrangements were not yours to exploit. Whether Lena files for divorce is her decision alone.”
“Chairman!” Adrian tried again, but at that moment, the assistant rushed in and handed over a report marked *Attorney-Client Privileged*.
The chairman scanned it, then tossed it onto the floor in front of Adrian.
His voice was low and rough.
“It’s news of Lena. See for yourself.”
