The Widow’s Fate They Chose Was My Escape Plan Chapter 18
My breath caught.
Marrying Sebastian had been my only way out of the Sterling family.
Now I had the signed settlement agreement, and Sebastian was offering me another choice. Did I still need to stay?
His profile was beautiful, his gaze gentle. Perhaps because of his long illness, his eyes held a quiet kindness. He seemed like a gentle guardian.
I looked straight at him. “If I stay, after you die, will the Quinn family have me killed?”
Sebastian shook his head. “That was just something my mother made up to scare you. Murder is a felony. No one in the Quinn family has the right to harm you.”
So I smiled. “Then I’ll go to Miami with you. I heard it’s warm and sits on the Atlantic. It sounds like a nice place.”
Sebastian looked surprised, but he nodded.
That afternoon, when Eleanor learned I would be going with them, she studied me for a long moment.
“When I met you the other day, I could tell you weren’t being treated well by the Sterlings. I don’t blame you for using us to get away. After all, you helped my son stabilize the confidence of the board and our creditors.”
“But you don’t need to go all the way to Miami. The doctor says he can’t fly, so we have to travel south by medical transport. It will be a hard trip. If you don’t want to see the Sterlings again, we can give you a settlement. You can go wherever you want.”
