The Widow’s Fate They Chose Was My Escape Plan Chapter 19

I shook my head. “Thank you,” I said softly, “but I think I should go to Miami.”

After getting lost as a child, I had spent two years learning basic first aid from an elderly doctor at a neighborhood clinic. During the trip, I monitored Sebastian’s vital signs as directed by the physician and took care of him.

Little by little, Eleanor’s view of me began to change. After hearing my story, she furiously cursed the Sterling men.

“They couldn’t protect the person who truly cared about them and instead defended someone who used them. Idiots! Family should be the people who stand by your side.”

“From now on, you’re my daughter.”

My eyes stung. “Mom,” I said softly.

Smiling, she took my hand.

We traveled south along Interstate 95 in a medically equipped vehicle. We drove only a few hours each day, with frequent stops. As the weather grew warmer, Sebastian’s complexion actually improved. As I checked his vitals every day, I could feel life gradually returning to his body.

But Sebastian said, “After I left New York, the chairman of Hudson Crest planted a corporate security contractor at my side. My recovery is not something he wants to see.”
