The Widow’s Fate They Chose Was My Escape Plan Chapter 21

They were both much thinner. When they saw me, their faces lit up.

“You’re okay. Thank God, you’re really okay!”

They hurried toward me as if to take my hands, but I sidestepped them.

Ethan paused, then gave a bitter smile.

“I know we wronged you. Adrian and the others… they’ve already paid the price. Can you forgive us?”

He spoke in fits and starts. Only then did I learn what had happened. After the chairman of Hudson Crest heard that Sebastian was critically ill, he had used his controlling votes to have the board remove Adrian from his executive post. He terminated Hudson Crest’s contract with Sterling Holdings and reclaimed the Upper East Side townhouse, forcing the Sterlings out of Manhattan.

Adrian had wanted to see Ivy one last time, but she had driven him away, telling the Sterlings to stop dragging her down.

After that, Adrian took to his sickbed. He sent messages to his two younger brothers, who were already halfway down I-95. They decided to keep driving to Miami to see how I was.

“If you don’t go back to see Adrian now, you may never see him again.”

Julian’s voice was earnest, his eyes pleading.
